Happy Friday, y'all! I'm pleased to report that we've returned from our family road trip in one piece. We did allow the people relatively liberal use of their devices, with a 1hr screen - 1hr music - 1hr device break rhythm...something I'd absolutely recommend for EVERYONE'S (relative) SANITY.

If you haven't yet completed the reader survey, I'd really love your input!

Table inspiration (re inspiration's unreliability)

On habits, from the inimitable Octavia Butler: "First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not...Habit is persistence in practice." (from Furor Scribendi)

If you haven't joined Summer Habit Formation Club, now's the time!!! Check out a few preliminary habit-formation tips, and commit to a new habit, since the Table doesn't just happen on its own. We've got some kickass habits underway. Be sure to keep track of your roadblocks, and we'll troubleshoot them in a couple of weeks.

I wasn't going to highlight a specific comment, but Becca's addendum about why she wants to form a coffee-and-spiritual-devotion habit is inspiring. Two young kids can make any self-work seem impossible, but:

I guess this feels important because I feel out of touch with my faith right now, I enjoy coffee and having it hot and believe that I’m worthy of that small pleasure, I want to take time to rest/center/breathe, I’m drawn to peaceful people and want to be one, I also want to live into the truth that my kids and the rest of this house is capable of functioning (at least in the summer) without me directing the show for a few minutes.

YESSS. Jump in!

REMINDER

image of hand with message in pen: "I'm a good curler. I have confidence. Let's have fun!"

Japanese Olympic curler Fujisawa Satsuki wrote herself a note during Japan's Olympic curling match (game? set?) against China earlier this year. I love it so much.

Love you! xoxo
